Visit Texas’s largest shopping center! With more than 30 million visitors each week, the Galleria is home to 400 high-end retail stores and restaurants situated in the 2.4 million-square-foot space. Situated between the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods, River Oaks and Memorial, the Galleria is a premier shopping destination for locals and visitors.

Washington Arts District.

Houston’s First Ward has transformed into the Washington Arts District with over 300 studios and warehouse buildings. You will want to check out the Sawyer Yards’ 800-foot mural wall, Saturday Markets, and renovated grain silos that have been converted into a contemporary art installation. Winter Street Studios and Spring Street Studios offer an array of art galleries nestled around the developing neighborhood, retail shops, and craft brewery.

White Oak Music Hall.

Attend a concert in one of the newest music venues in Houston. It offers multiple stages and an outside lawn. Before the concert, stop by The Raven Tower right next door to grab some dinner from local food trucks. Both locations are run by the producers of Free Press Summer Fest, the city’s biggest music festival.

Rudyard's British Pub.

Catch local comedians practice new material during free open mic nights every Monday. If you are brave enough, sign up to test your jokes. Located in the Montrose area, this pub has historic charm and a cozy feel. Make sure to try one of Rudz’s famous burgers. The upstairs stage boasts live music and hilarious story time readings the rest of the week.

Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Stroll through the halls of famous artworks spanning over 300,000 square feet. MFAH is situated in two museum buildings, two house buildings, and 18 acres of public gardens. Take advantage of the free Thursdays, happy hours, and other events going on each week. With exhibitions continually changing, you are sure to experience the museum in a new light each time you go.

The Menil Collection.
Shopping and Entertainment
Change your perspective at the Menil. This unique art museum is hidden in the Montrose neighborhood. No didactics are displayed, allowing the works of art to speak for themselves and the viewer to interpret their own meanings. The Menil’s mission is to make art accessible to everyone, so there is no cost to visit. Beyoncee made sure to stop at the museum while in Houston for a concert.

The Theater District.

Houston’s downtown Theater District is nationally recognized for performing art productions. You will want to get a ticket to see one of the Alley Theatre’s plays or attend one of the many workshops. The Houston Ballet is the fourth largest company in the U.S. During the winter season, the Nutcracker captures the eyes of thousands each year.

The Houston Zoo.

Bring the kids to a fun day at the zoo exploring the many different animals and activities. Take a train ride around Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theater, and the Houston Zoo. Interact with the animals by feeding the giraffes or stopping by one of the petting attractions. Make sure to take advantage of free days on the first Tuesday of each month, September through May.

Market Square Park.

In the heart of downtown, you and the family can enjoy a movie under the stars. If the kids get hungry, you can eat at a Niko Niko’s, which has become Houston’s favorite little Greek dive. Historic Market Square Park is the original town center that has been transformed with a dog run, gardens, art installations, and a cafe? converted from an old filling station. Lawn chairs and blankets are highly recommended for movie nights.

Children's Museum of Houston.

Spark your kids’ imaginations with interactive exhibits. Activities are meant to encourage learning, critical thinking skills, physical challenges, and creative minds. There are things to do for all ages, including an exhibit for children younger than 35 months old. Go on a Thursday night from 5 to 8 PM for free family night entry.

Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Get a close-up look at prehistoric giants at the museum’s dinosaur exhibit. While you are there, experience earth like never before by seeing one of the planetarium’s shows. You will definitely want to get tickets to the Cockrell Butterfly Center to walk through the stunning rainforest structure, home to hundreds of exotic butterflies and insects. Keep your kids captivated by seeing one of the 3D shows at the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre.

Jamail Skatepark.

Overlooking Houston’s downtown skyline and the beautifully renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park, this skatepark is open every day of the week to enjoy. While your older children skate the state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot grounds, take your youngest to the children’s outdoor water park and jungle gym right below the Skater Alley. Enjoy a picnic or one of the many events that happen on the at grounds. Eleanor Tinsley Park is a short walk across the historic Sabine Bridge, where you can play a round of sand volleyball, enjoy the bike paths, or capture a picturesque photo of the skyline.

Discovery Green.

There is always something to discover here. Bring the kids to one of the many family-friendly weekend events, concerts, and movies on the lawn. Home to changing and permanent art installations, you will want to bring your camera along to capture the fun. You can enjoy a nice dinner out at The Grove or one of the many restaurants surrounding Discovery Green.

Waugh Drive Bat Colony.

One of Houston’s best-kept secrets is the Waugh Bridge Bat Colony that emerges every night at dusk. These permanent residents play an important role in maintaining Houston’s mosquito and insect population balance. Get there early to grab a spot on the observation deck.

Snap some photos in front of the many famous wall art locations around town. Head downtown to view the “Houston is Inspired” commissioned piece located at Market Square Park. Biscuit Paint Wall, located in the Montrose area, fits in with the eclectic neighborhood style. East downtown, Eado, is a stopping point for the Sugar and Cloth Color Wall. With many artists and commissioned walls going up, you can take a tour of the different locations with Houston Mural Tours.

Critical Mass.

Meet up with bikers from all over Houston on the last Friday of every month for a slow-paced ride through the city’s best spots. Promoting cyclist safety and awareness, Critical Mass features thousands of bikers starting at Market Square Park. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring bike lights and reflectors, as the last destination ends around 10 PM.

Waterwall Park.

Gerald D Hines Waterwall Park is situated in the Galleria District and features a 64-foot cascading fountain. Open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, the centerpiece faces a green space that is great for relaxing during the day.

The Original Ninfa’s.

Established in 1973, Mama Ninfa became a local celebrity after starting the fajita craze that has grown to what it is today. With its own specialty menu, this dining experience will be anything but ordinary. Located in its original building on Navigation, Ninfa’s will wow you with its historic atmosphere.

The Conservatory.

While downtown, you will want to head to the Conservatory, Houston’s underground beer garden and eatery. Set up like a cafeteria, there are multiple food options to accommodate all types of groups. Share a plate of BBQ, grab a savory vegetarian crepe, or enjoy a hot bowl of ramen. The atmosphere is casual and unique with live planters built into the walls.

The Woodlands Mall.

This two story enclosed mall is the perfect place for a little retail therapy. Bring the family so the kids can get the latest back-to-school looks while you get the latest gadgets. If you get hungry, you’re in luck! There are numerous food options, from pretzels and coffee to steak and wine and everything in between!

This outdoor shopping venue offers a classic Venetian style with lovely Roman fountains and 10-foot waterfalls—a great shopping hot spot for the whole family.

Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

Buy lawn tickets ahead of time for the whole bunch, bring a blanket or some chairs, and enjoy the show! The casual atmosphere is perfect to add interest to an otherwise monotonous weekend. If you’re going to see one of the more popular acts, be sure to get there early so you have time to park and snag a great spot on the lawn.

Rob Fleming Aquatic Center.

Not only is this attraction great for kids, it’s also fun for adults. This attraction is a reasonably-priced mini water park perfect for the whole family. There is a kids play area and tube slide, as well as a lazy river great for just floating around. The prices per person range from $8 to $10, which is a bargain considering all the fun you’ll be having. Season passes are also available but are definitely a better value for residents of The Woodlands Township. Don’t forget the towels and sunscreen for this attraction!

The Woodlands Children's Museum.

Spend a day learning and exploring with the entire family. This museum is definitely ideal for toddlers to preteens and will be a whole lot of fun for younger children. The activities may include dancing to Tom’s Fun Band, meeting small creatures during Critter Time, or learning fun new science facts.

Riva Row Boat House.

Take the family kayaking on Lake Woodlands. Prices range from $10 to $20 per person for the first hour and $5 for every additional hour. An hour may not seem like much, but after an hour full of paddling yourself around, it’s likely you’ll be ready to chill out and grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant.

Wet'n' Wild Splashtown.

With three new attractions including Wet‘n’Wild Jr. (an expansive play area) for the kids, you’re sure to have a fun time slipping and sliding on a sunny Texas day.

George Mitchell Nature Preserve.

While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, hiking through this nature preserve left mostly undisturbed by people (with the exception of the trails) is quite literally a walk in the park. The serene scenery is sure to charm any visitor and the shady canopy will keep you cool. It is crazy to think it’s less than ten miles from the inner city of The Woodlands. The parking is limited, so try to get there earlier in the day.

Farmers Market at CHI St. Luke's Health–The Woodlands.

Town Green Park.

Near the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Town Green Park has a lawn area for a number of outdoor activities, as well as a children’s garden complete with a natural labyrinth of 3-foot-high hedges. The entrance is also rather scenic as is the sculpture garden.

Walk your playful pup at Meyer Park Dog Park. The park has two sections, one for larger dogs and the other for smaller dogs. Amenities include a small pool for dogs to cool off in, separate water fountains for people and dogs, and complimentary trash bags to clean up any droppings. Bring a towel and dog shampoo to use at one of the rinsing stations just in case your pooch finds a mud puddle. The Woodlands is also home to numerous other dog parks to let your dog explore. This week is a collection of smaller events that occur over the span of a week in early June and celebrates culinary virtuosos and wine connoisseurs. The individual events cost anywhere from $20 to $135.

Annual Children's Festival.

This annual event takes place in mid-November at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and costs $8 per person ahead of time or $10 at the gate. There are fun activity zones as well as performers, both local and well-known.

The Woodlands BBQ Festival.

This event happens in late September with tickets ranging from $60 to $120, depending on the type of admission you’d like and the number of tickets you are purchasing. Come out to try the delicious meats that all of the different barbeque joints have to offer!

The Woodlands Taste of The Town.

This annual event, hosted by The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce in late January, is $15 per child and $25 per adult, although there are group discounts available. Attendees are in for a taste of local restaurants and businesses in the food industry; there is something for everyone. At the 2016 Taste of the Town, CHI St. Luke’s Health–The Woodlands Hospital won Best Dessert for our Black Bean Budino!

Home and Garden Show.

This event in mid-August features quality goods and companies that provide reliable services for home and garden renovations. Bring your renovation plans and cash for the cash-only ticket purchase– $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.

Red, Hot and Blue Festival.

This festival and fireworks extravaganza takes place at Town Green Park and The Woodlands Waterway on July 4th. With entertainment on multiple stages, vendors present, children’s activities, and food (of course!), there’s something for everyone.

CityPlace.

CityPlace is a 60-acre mixed-use urban district that is a vibrant hub for the community. Construction began in this area in early 2015. When completed, the district will feature luxury residential, glass and steel office buildings, retail, dining, a full-service hotel (Marriott CityPlace at Springwoods Village), and a beautiful public plaza (CityPlace Plaza) that invites residents and workers to gather and enjoy the scenery. All buildings within CityPlace are LEED certified or the equivalent. Catch some air on the track! Take Oyster Creek Trail all the way to Lost Creek Park. Lost Creek Park features its own pump track for BMX enthusiasts to ride. Be sure to bring a helmet and safety guards. The park also includes a playground for the kids and indoor restrooms.

Grab your pooch and head on over! The park is divided into two sections: one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Both areas are enclosed with fences with multiple gates to keep any rogue dogs from running out when entering or exiting. The larger dog’s area is complete with a doggy pond and chairs for owners. There are benches located near trees in both areas for owners as well. Multiple bag stations are available to make cleaning up after your pooch a breeze. Doggy shower stalls are also on site to rinse your dog post-play.

Shop local! Come out to the Imperial Sugar Factory for fresh produce, handmade products, and a good time! This market is up and running every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM and features live musicians.

Cultural Kite Festival.

Come out and celebrate diversity at this annual festival! Kites in an array of colors, shapes, and sizes representing different cultures take to the skies for a day of fun with the family. This one-day festival occurs in early spring at Brazos River Park.

Halloween Town.

This spooky Halloween-themed event is fun for any and everyone who loves to dress up and have a good time. Stick around for the costume contest featuring toddlers, children, and pets dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes. This event takes place annually around Halloween at Sugar Land’s Town Square.

Vintage Park Shopping Village.

Buy gifts at the many boutiques and local shops. Get your friends together to paint at Art Class & Wine Glass or dine at one of the many restaurant options. Vintage Park also hosts live musicians at multiple locations every weekend.

Willowbrook Mall.

Find over 150 stores and food court favorites. They also invite mall walkers to join them from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Monday through Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sundays to stroll the 1.125-mile walkway around the entire mall, perfect for cold or rainy days.

Tomball Depot.

Have a monthly family night at 2nd Saturday in Downtown Tomball. This free event starts 5:00 PM and features games, activities, and a movie projected on a giant inflatable screen at dark.

iT’Z Houston.
