Situated between the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods, River Oaks and Memorial, the Galleria is a premier shopping destination for locals and visitors.
Washington Arts District.

Houston’s First Ward has transformed into the Washington Arts District with over 300 studios and warehouse buildings. You will want to check out the Sawyer Yards’ 800-foot mural wall, Saturday Markets, and renovated grain silos that have been converted into a contemporary art installation. Winter Street Studios and Spring Street Studios offer an array of art galleries nestled around the developing neighborhood, retail shops, and craft brewery.
White Oak Music Hall.

Attend a concert in one of the newest music venues in Houston. It offers multiple stages and an outside lawn. Before the concert, stop by The Raven Tower right next door to grab some dinner from local food trucks. Both locations are run by the producers of Free Press Summer Fest, the city’s biggest music festival.

Catch local comedians practice new material during free open mic nights every Monday. If you are brave enough, sign up to test your jokes. Located in the Montrose area, this pub has historic charm and a cozy feel. Make sure to try one of Rudz’s famous burgers. The upstairs stage boasts live music and hilarious story time readings the rest of the week.
Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Stroll through the halls of famous artworks spanning over 300,000 square feet. MFAH is situated in two museum buildings, two house buildings, and 18 acres of public gardens. Take advantage of the free Thursdays, happy hours, and other events going on each week. With exhibitions continually changing, you are sure to experience the museum in a new light each time you go.
The Menil Collection.

Change your perspective at the Menil. This unique art museum is hidden in the Montrose neighborhood. No didactics are displayed, allowing the works of art to speak for themselves and the viewer to interpret their own meanings. The Menil’s mission is to make art accessible to everyone, so there is no cost to visit. Beyoncee made sure to stop at the museum while in Houston for a concert.
The Theater District.

Houston’s downtown Theater District is nationally recognized for performing art productions. You will want to get a ticket to see one of the Alley Theatre’s plays or attend one of the many workshops. The Houston Ballet is the fourth largest company in the U.S. During the winter season, the Nutcracker captures the eyes of thousands each year.

Bring the kids to a fun day at the zoo exploring the many different animals and activities. Take a train ride around Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theater, and the Houston Zoo. Interact with the animals by feeding the giraffes or stopping by one of the petting attractions. Make sure to take advantage of free days on the first Tuesday of each month, September through May.

In the heart of downtown, you and the family can enjoy a movie under the stars. If the kids get hungry, you can eat at a Niko Niko’s, which has become Houston’s favorite little Greek dive. Historic Market Square Park is the original town center that has been transformed with a dog run, gardens, art installations, and a cafe? converted from an old filling station. Lawn chairs and blankets are highly recommended for movie nights.

Spark your kids’ imaginations with interactive exhibits. Activities are meant to encourage learning, critical thinking skills, physical challenges, and creative minds. There are things to do for all ages, including an exhibit for children younger than 35 months old. Go on a Thursday night from 5 to 8 PM for free family night entry.
Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Get a close-up look at prehistoric giants at the museum’s dinosaur exhibit. While you are there, experience earth like never before by seeing one of the planetarium’s shows. You will definitely want to get tickets to the Cockrell Butterfly Center to walk through the stunning rainforest structure, home to hundreds of exotic butterflies and insects. Keep your kids captivated by seeing one of the 3D shows at the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre.
Jamail Skatepark.

Overlooking Houston’s downtown skyline and the beautifully renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park, this skatepark is open every day of the week to enjoy. While your older children skate the state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot grounds, take your youngest to the children’s outdoor water park and jungle gym right below the Skater Alley. Enjoy a picnic or one of the many events that happen on the at grounds. Eleanor Tinsley Park is a short walk across the historic Sabine Bridge, where you can play a round of sand volleyball, enjoy the bike paths, or capture a picturesque photo of the skyline.

Promoting cyclist safety and awareness, Critical Mass features thousands of bikers starting at Market Square Park. Not only is this attraction great for kids, it’s also fun for adults. This attraction is a reasonably-priced mini water park perfect for the whole family. There is a kids play area and tube slide, as well as a lazy river great for just floating around. The prices per person range from $8 to $10, which is a bargain considering all the fun you’ll be having. Season passes are also available but are definitely a better value for residents of The Woodlands Township. Don’t forget the towels and sunscreen for this attraction!
The Woodlands Children's Museum.

Spend a day learning and exploring with the entire family. This museum is definitely ideal for toddlers to preteens and will be a whole lot of fun for younger children. The activities may include dancing to Tom’s Fun Band, meeting small creatures during Critter Time, or learning fun new science facts.

Take the family kayaking on Lake Woodlands. Prices range from $10 to $20 per person for the first hour and $5 for every additional hour. An hour may not seem like much, but after an hour full of paddling yourself around, it’s likely you’ll be ready to chill out and grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant.

While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, hiking through this nature preserve left mostly undisturbed by people (with the exception of the trails) is quite literally a walk in the park. The serene scenery is sure to charm any visitor and the shady canopy will keep you cool. It is crazy to think it’s less than ten miles from the inner city of The Woodlands. The parking is limited, so try to get there earlier in the day.

This annual event, hosted by The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce in late January, is $15 per child and $25 per adult, although there are group discounts available. Red, Hot and Blue Festival.

This festival and fireworks extravaganza takes place at Town Green Park and The Woodlands Waterway on July 4th. With entertainment on multiple stages, vendors present, children’s activities, and food (of course!), there’s something for everyone.

CityPlace is a 60-acre mixed-use urban district that is a vibrant hub for the community. Construction began in this area in early 2015.
