Our Family Birthing Center at Sugar Land Hospital features spa-like private birthing suites that allow you to labor and deliver in the same room, and we proudly offer opportunities for couplet care, which allows mom and baby to stay together for the length of their hospital stay, promoting family bonding and successful breastfeeding. As a Level II Neonatal Facility in Perinatal Care as designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services, we’re able to provide advanced care for newborns who require a little extra attention.
Our philosophy of creating an atmosphere of togetherness and providing the opportunity for mom and baby to bond begins with our practice of couplet care. Couplet care means that mother and baby remain together as a pair during your hospital stay. One nurse will care for both mom and baby and is trained to provide the best care through this transition.
Best practices have shown that combining couplet care, delayed bathing, and skin-to-skin have numerous advantages for both mom and baby, including, but not limited to:
- Learning different feeding cues and sleep patterns
- Fostering and promoting successful breastfeeding
- Decrease in hypothermia — stable body temperature
- Better control of baby’s blood sugar
- Lower blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate for mom
We know that true caring and compassion are in the details of our service to you. For your added comfort, we provide a complementary Celebration Meal for two in honor of your birth day, private restrooms with spacious showers, and 42-inch flat screen TVs. Our commitment to give each mother a happy birth day is demonstrated through our approach to patient care and the atmosphere of our facility.
