Symptoms of COVID-19? Here’s How to Get Tested in Texas

Posted in: Blogs , English

Because the situation surrounding COVID-19 is constantly evolving, some information may not be up to date. Stay informed by visiting the CDC website.

If you suspect that you have COVID-19, we recommend that you call your primary care physician to explain your symptoms and find a location to go for testing. If you are having difficulty breathing or other life-threatening symptoms, please call 911 or visit a local emergency room, but call ahead to let them know to take precautions.

As we continue to see active cases in our community, testing remains critical. Counties around Greater Houston have opened up several public, drive-through testing sites to help identify patients with COVID-19. Many of these testing sites require that you call ahead, at which point you will receive a code that you can then take to the appropriate location.

COVID-19 Testing in Harris County

Whether you are experiencing symptoms or are asymptomatic, you are able to get tested for COVID-19 in Harris County. Find a testing location by visiting ReadyHarris.org to take an online assessment or, if you can’t access the internet, by calling (832) 927-7575. Doing so will provide you with a number and the address of a testing site. Harris County is opening new testing sites and working on increasing testing capacity at its existing sites. Additionally, two mobile units are available to serve various parts of Harris County. You don’t have to be a resident of Harris County to participate.

COVID-19 Testing Throughout Texas

If you’re not in Harris County and want to find a testing location closer to home, the Texas Department of State Health Services offers a map tool to help you find your nearest testing site.

Preparing for Testing

Remember that there might be long lines at these testing sites, and you may not have access to a bathroom. Consider bringing the following things with you:

  • Water (not too much, as restroom facilities may be limited)
  • Snacks
  • Fully charged cell phone and charger
  • Book or any other activities to help you pass the time.

As always, we are with you in health. If you believe you have any symptoms of COVID-19, reach out to your St. Luke’s Health primary care physician today.
